Calm, professional counseling environment

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Counseling that's honest about what it takes.

I believe that people have the right to live a life without fear. I want to help you not to have to live that way. To that end, my strategy is to focus on the solution, not the problem.

My approach

I believe everyone has the right to live a life free from fear. Fear keeps us stuck. This is your life, and you are allowed to enjoy it. As a licensed therapist (LPCC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I have provided mental health counseling for more than 30 years, helping individuals overcome anxiety, depression, anger, addiction, trauma and relationship challenges. My approach is solution-focused therapy — I do not dwell on the problem; I focus on the solution. I ask "why?" a lot. If you do not know why you do something, you are doomed to repeat it. People come to counseling because they have questions. They want to know if what they are feeling is normal, they want to know if they are always going to be this way, they want to know if they can stop hurting. They want to understand their patterns and why they keep making the same mistakes over and over again. The search for those answers is where real change begins. People often ask why counseling is better than just talking to friends or family.  Everybody you know has an agenda for you, about what you need to do in order to be happy, successful, etc.  As a counselor, my only agenda is to help you figure out what you best need and how to get there.  I don't have the agenda that your friends or family do.

A welcoming space

Dogs welcome here

Dogs and cats welcome. This office is a pet-friendly safe space.  If having your pet with you helps you feel more at ease, bring them along. I usually bring one or two of my own, just in case.  Sometimes an animal in the room is exactly what the session needs.

Please give me a heads-up when you schedule if you are not comfortable with dogs so I can make sure not to bring mine.
