About David
A straightforward approach to what can be a complicated process.
Therapy works when both people are honest. That does not happen often. I bring that to my work with you — clear about what I offer, direct about what the process requires, and committed to your progress.
Background
I'm a licensed professional counselor based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with over 30 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. My training is grounded in evidence-based approaches — primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Solution focused therapy
Before starting this private practice, I worked in a variety of settings, including the Pueblo of Acoma, MDC, the Penitentiary of New Mexico in Santa Fe, the Sandoval County DWI program, and other locations. This work has given me the opportunity to work with a variety of clients and the ability to help treat anxiety, depression, anger, addiction, domestic violence treatment, trauma and relationship conflict. It has also supported my belief that counseling should be solution-focused, not problem-focused.
I hold a Master of Arts in Community and Clinical Psychology from California State University. I am independently licensed in the state of New Mexico. I also provide clinical supervision. I pursue ongoing training to ensure my practice reflects current research and best practices.

How I work
What to expect in sessions
Structured, not rigid
Sessions usually have a clear purpose, but it is your therapy, so you get to decide where we go. We'll set goals early and revisit them regularly. As changes are needed, we will make them.
Direct feedback
I will tell you what I observe, even (especially) when it is uncomfortable. Behaviours never change without a consequence and sometimes being told the truth is the best consequence. I aim to be honest in a way that is respectful and constructive.
Evidence-based methods
I draw on a variety of approaches that have strong research support. I adapt the session and my approach to fit each client rather than applying a single model to everyone.
Your pace, your goals
My job is to help you clarify what you want and build the capacity to get there. You do the work. I just guide you there.
Want to know if we're a good fit?
I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation. It is a chance to ask questions, get a sense of how I work, and decide whether to move forward — no pressure either way.
